Youth Opportunities Fund Successful Bid

Youth Opportunities Fund

Dear Club Members,

The club has received an official confirmation that our 'Project Bid' has been successful and that the Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) / Youth Capital Fund (YCF) Selection Committee has awarded 'The Brentwood Colts Cricket Club Youth Project Team' £8,000.00.

The members of 'The Brentwood Colts Cricket Club Youth Project Team' were Tim Barbone, Matt Lowman, Sam Rounce, Chris Stockwell James Welham and Aaron West.

The aim of the project was to secure as much funding as possible to "renovate our club's two lane bowling strips plus the purchase of two new nets and galvanised steel cages," in total we applied to the YOF / YCF for £12,500.00.

Once we had been informed by the YOF / YCF Selection Committee that our 18 page presentation package had been reviewed and accepted our 'Project Team' gave them a formal presentation at The Old County Ground in January 2007. Also in attendance were The Colts Chairman, David Barbone and Vice Chairman Peter Lowman.

On hearing the wonderful news Ken Lingwood (Chairman of Brentwood CC) Malcolm Webb (President) and Dave Barbone (Colts Chairman) formally congratulated the successful Colts Project Team.

Malcolm Webb who originally instigated the idea after reading an article in the local press said, "This was a textbook example of all aspects of our club working together for the benefit of everybody at Brentwood CC." He also commended Peter Lowman who assisted the Project Team in putting together such a professional presentation package and submitting the club's application.

WHAT HAPPENS NOW?

On the 27th February 2007 there will be a formal Presentation Evening at The Hermit, Brentwood, the majority of the successful Project Team members will be attending and once again they will make a small presentation consisting of information about the project, the funding application, and what this will mean to the many young local community club cricket members that attend Brentwood CC.

Hopefully the club will now be able to secure further funds to complete the project for the start of the 2007 cricket season.

Once again WELL DONE TO THE LADS and everyone that helped secure this important grant.

Our Celebration Night at The Hermit!

The Brentwood Colts Youth Project Representative Group attended the Youth Opportunities & Capital Fund Celebration Evening last night, there were around 17 clubs / organisations that won awards and each group were asked to present their project to the audience and the Mayor of Brentwood Councillor Jean McGinley.

Prior to the start of the event the lads and I met up and had a quick rehearsal of our presentation, we decided to split the presentation into four sections with one speaker covering a section:

The History of the Club (Sam Rounce)

The Colts Section (James Welham)

The Project (Matt Lowman)

The summary and thank you's (Chris Stockwell)

Our lads were given slot 7 to make their presentation, it was quite daunting for them being under the spotlight with so many people to front, however, the lads came through with flying colours Sam got us off to a great start getting many of the valid points across about the club including our 125th Anniversary celebrations last year in association with the' Little Havens Children's Hospice, and the club motto.

James spoke about the Colts section giving lots of information about our clubs membership numbers, coaching nights, the need for young cricketers to have good training facilities, good equipment, professional coaching but within a safe environment. This lead us nicely into our project bid.

Matt then gave his talk on the project itself, renovating the bowling strips, buying new galvanised cages and nets; he mentioned the benefits it will bring for all of our young local community cricketers, enhancing their techniques and skills along with the safety aspect. In addition to this he mentioned that others might benefit from the project such as some of our local community schools that sometimes use our facilities.

Following on from this Chris gave a summary and then on behalf of the Colts section and the Main Executive Board of Brentwood CC thanked the YOF, Essex County Council and the Members of the Selection Committee for giving us such a generous award.

He then invited everyone along in the summer to view our project and watch the Colts section at training.

After everyone had made their presentation the Mayor presented each of the project teams with large Lloyds TSB dummy cheques so that people in the audience could take photos (it did appear that the lads had picked up some fans over the night as their was a huge cheer from one corner of the audience when they went up to collect their cheque, some young attractive ladies from other 'project bids' I hasten to add!).

The evening was great fun and our lads did us proud, if however, there is anyone in the manor who has not heard of Brentwood Cricket Club, then I think they have now!

Well done to everyone who took part in this project over the last three months I think it's all been worth it, unfortunately Tim Barbone and Aaron West were unable to attend last night but were members of the team.

Also I would like to thank Jayne and Dave Stockwell who ventured into 'The Hermit' with Sue and I last night (brave people!).

Hopefully the real cheque is in the post! We propose to put the dummy one on the 'Club House' Wall.
