U9 Tournament - 7th September 2008

Brentwood turned up at Hutton for their tournament early Sunday morning with the weather conditions being some what autumnal.

The boys beat Bentley in the first game with 4 overs to spare, Kieran Short and Jabez Weale both batting solidly. In the second game the team were up against much stiffer opposition in Hutton. Hutton bowled very well. Joe Hunt was the only player to get to grips with the bowling and Brentwood ended up with a reasonable score of 45. Julian Whetstone and Tom Wingrove bowled good line and length but Hutton got across the line with 5 balls to spare.

We then took on Chelmsford who set a large total of 76 even though our players all bowled and fielded to a very high standard. Our batsmen started off in a controlled manner with Jack Payne retiring on 19 and Julian Whetstone and Tom Wingrove seeing it through with 3 balls to spare. Brentwood came 3rd out of 8 teams with Hutton being the winners.

All the boys have progressed immensely this season. The most exciting point to make is that even though the boys played well they can only improve. Two of the boys in this squad are only aged 8 and Brentwood have an abundance of players waiting to play in next years tournaments.

Roll on next season!
