U13 Central Essex Cup
Brentwood Captain Ravi Rupal won the toss and elected to bat on a flat looking Brentwood wicket. Kristen Ali and Ravi made a steady start, with Ali in particular going along nicely in the first few overs. He was punished for his first loose shot, a superb over the shoulder catch in the outfield at point doing for him. The rate increased with Ed Hornby at the crease who kept the scoreboard ticking over. Ravi hit one glorious boundary but was bowled the very next ball. Nine and a half overs had then been bowled and the score was 43-2, we needed to start stepping on the gas. Sam Dawes joined Ed. They did indeed step on the gas with a glorious display of stroke play. The partnership remained unbroken on 99 through the remainder of the innings. Sam hit an unbeaten 56 with Ed agonisingly short of a Half Century on 47 not out.
The Little Baddow side were all quite inexperienced but the still had to be beaten; the game was virtually over though in the very first over, with Ben Churchill taking 2 wickets clean bowled. Prem Pithia bowled at good pace and took a further wicket with a ct and bowled. Most players got a bowl but Douglas Maxwell caught the eye with an awesome display 4-1-3-3 including a hat-trick with his canny leggies. Sam Dawes mopped up the tail 0.5-0-1-2.

Aythorpe Roding Colts U13s - 170 all out
Brentwood Colts U13s - 171-2
Brentwood won by 8 wickets

Peter Coe Cup Final
After a long hard season, Brentwood U13s converted one of their three chances of Cup glory. Having narrowly lost to Wanstead in the County Cup Final last month, Brentwood beat Aythorpe Roding in the coveted Peter Coe Cup Final - played at the Essex County Ground.
Aythorpe won the toss and chose to bat on a day where weather was undoubtedly going to intervene. Aythorpe's openers took advantage of some loose nervous deliveries - Hebron looking particularly sharp - and the openers were off to a flying start. Brentwood bowlers, Hilliard and Churchill, soon settled down though and with the advent of Hull, the brakes were soon applied.
Wickets fell steadily but Aythorpe managed to keep the runs ticking over at a reasonable rate with Malins, in particular, finding the boundary on a regular basis. Wickets from both Maxwell and Pithia, some excellent team fielding and two sharp catches from captain Dawes helped to reduce the run rate. Dawes went on to polish off the tail, taking the last two wickets. Aythorpe finished on 170 all out.
Hull and Ali opened the batting for Brentwood and began very effectively but with the score on 28 in the fifth over, the weather struck. Had the forecast proved true this would have been the end of the match and the dreaded bowl out would have settled the match. Remarkably, the rain stopped after twenty minutes and play was able to resume. Hull and Ali carried on relentlessly with good timing married with aggression and power. The pair reached 137 before their partnership was broken - Hull run out on 64. This was enough to re-inspire Aythorpe. Strong bowling by Head in particular helped Aythorpe drag their way back into the game. Some extra effort was needed from Brentwood and Ali upped the pace and when he was run out for 64 the game was virtually won. Hornby and Dawes saw Brentwood to an outstanding 8 wicket victory in the 38th over.
Brentwood U13s now have one match remaining this season - their third cup final, in the District cup against Hutton and they will need the same effort and focus if they are to gain a second cup victory.
Whatever the result it has been a superb season for Brentwood, much of it due to a great team spirit and the depth of the whole squad supported by the club coaches and Colt's Committee. Anyone interested in finding out more or joining Brentwood Colts should contact Julie Welham on 01277 215875.
