Brentwood U11 - 101-4
High Roding - 102-4
Brentwood lost by 1 run

Team:
Edward Abbott
Matthew Bell
James Berry
Aaron Doyle
George Gennings
Ryan Beecheno

The first game of the season and the first indoor game for some of the boys. A bit nervous I told Captain Edward Abbott to bowl first if we won the toss, we did, thought that might settle the boys first. Ryan volunteered to keep wicket, and I let the rest bowl two over's each. I knew High Roding would be strong, but the boys bowled well. Once into the game their fielding got better, but High Roding managed to score 102 in 10 over's.

A good score I knew we would have to bat not only well but with confidence. Matthew and Aaron opened the batting; Matthew was on a flying start, Aaron a little bit nervous, let Matthew take charge. Matthew retired on 25, and Edward came in, he was doing well, when Aaron got out. We were on target and I was confident that we could win this, George and James then came in, followed by Ryan, by the last over we were struggling, we need to run every ball. An exciting finish and we only lost by one run. Thanks to Kevin Brailey for helping run the team.

Brentwood U11 - 57-2 off 6.1 overs
Hornchurch Athletic - 56-3
Brentwood won by 4 wickets

Team:
Edward Abbott
Matthew Bell
James Berry
George Gennings
Ryan Beecheno
Julian Whetstone

Matthew captained this game, with Edward as wicketkeeper, thought I would play the same tactics and bowl first. Matthew opened the bowling and got a wicket 2nd ball, a great bit of fielding by Ryan ending the over 4 for 1. James came on next, followed by Ryan, his 5th ball he bowled there was a run out and Hornchurch Athletic were now 13 for 2 off 3 over's. George our spinner came on next, followed by Julian. The 6th over was Ryan's and the 7th Julian's who bowled a maiden. I could tell the boys were less nervous and sharper than their first game. James then came on and another run out, and unfortunately one retired ill. After 10 over's the score was 56 for 3.

Matthew and George opened the batting, Matthew was caught on 6 in the 2nd over and Edward replaced him. The score was 15 for 1 after 2 over's, George was on form and hit a massive six before getting run out in the 5th over, he was on 18 runs, the score after 5 over's was 49 for 2. James came in, and Edward finished the game off the first ball of the 7th over with another massive 6. Well done to you all.

Ilford - 122-4
Brentwood U11 - 107-4
Ilford won by 15 runs

Team:
Edward Abbott - Captain
Matthew Bell
James Berry
George Gennings
Aaron Doyle
Ryan Beecheno

Although Brentwood lost this game by 15 runs, Ilford were on tender-hooks until the last over of Brentwood innings. Edward Abbott captain this game, Ilford won the toss and chose to bat.

Ilford had a good start and after 4 overs were on 49 runs. Matthew took the first wicket in the 6th over, the score now being 69. James took a wicket in the next over and Aaron in the next, the score now was 85. Edward took a wicket in the 9th over and at the end of this over it was 96. Unfortunately Ilford scored 26 runs in the final over, leaving Brentwood now a hard task.

Matthew and George opened the batting for Brentwood, and we had a good start, George hit a wopping six and his running between the wickets was excellent backed up by Matthew. Brentwood were on 63 after 5 overs, going ahead by 1 run to Ilfords score. George then got run out on 16 runs, and Edward got run out in the 6th over on 22 runs, by this time Matthew had retired on 26 runs. We lost our 3rd wicket James who was run out on 8 when the score was 88, and our 4th wicket was lost when the score was 97, this was now the 9th over and still we were ahead by 1 run, but unfortunately in the last over, we were not able to score the massive 26 runs that Ilford got in their last over. But well done to all the boys.

Thanks to Kevin Brailey for helping me on the day.

Brentwood U11 - 100-1
Shenfield - 90-2

Team:
James Berry - Captain
Matthew Bell
Edward Abbott
George Gennings
Hulian Whetstone
Tom Wingrove

Brentwood loss the toss and was put in to bat. We had a bad start George getting run out on the 3rd ball, but James continued with excellent batting, hitting a massive 6 in the second over, then retiring in the 5th over on 28 runs.

The score at this time was 52. Matthew and Edward had some steady batting, before Matthew also retired in the 9th over on 26 runs. The score now was 91. Our youngest player came in for the last over Julian and scored 5 runs on the last ball after some confusing fielding from Shenfield, ending the game on 100 runs exactly. This set Shenfield a good target and the confidence was now flowing.

George bowled the first over and took a wicket caught and bowled on the 5th ball. Julian came on in the 4th over and Matthew took a brillient catch on his 3rd ball. The score now was 33 for 2 wickets. Shenfield batted steadily for a few overs, but were reluctant to run and the score was only 68 after 9 overs. In their last over they scored 22 runs, leaving them a total of 90.

We have decided we need to improve on our bowling techniques as the extras were more than the final score. Thank you to David Berry for helping.

Hutton U11 - 59-2
Brentwood U11 - 61-0
Brentwood won by 6 wickets

Team:
George Gennings - Captain
James Berry
Matthew Bell
Edward Abbott
Aaron Doyle
Ryan Beecheno

Brentwood loss the toss and Hutton chose to bat first. Hutton were scoring quite slowly and lost their first wicket in the 3rd over off Georges bowling and caught by James, one of the best catches I have ever seen. The bowling this time had much improved and Hutton were only on 23 runs after 6 overs. They lost their second wicket in the 8th over, a run out, and ended up on only 59 runs after 10 overs.

Brentwood were confident they could win this game and went out to bat very positively. George batted extremely well, and retired in the 4th over on 25 runs, at this time the score was 31. James then came in, and Matthew batted steadily, whilst James hit a few fours. We did not loose any wickets and won the game on 61 runs after only 8 overs. Matthew was on 11 not out and James on 19 not out. Well done again.

We are now in a position where we need to win our last game against Chelmsford to go into the finals. Good luck boys. Thanks to all the parents for helping me.

Report by Dave Berry

Chelmsford U11 - 99-5
Brentwood U11 - 59-6
Chelmsford won by 40 runs

Brentwood lost the toss with Chelmsford electing to bat first in this top of the league clash.

Brentwood bowled tightly and accurately with Captain George Jennings rotating the bowling attack. Ryan Beechino kept wicket really well, restricting byes to a minimum and Brentwood's ground fielding was excellent, with Chelmsford scoring only 99 from their allotted ten overs.

Chelmsford bowled and fielded equally well and Brentwood lost steady wickets chasing down the total. When James Berry was bowled for nineteen in the eighth over, lasting man standing Aaron Doyle bludgeoned and nurdled the bowling to all corners scoring a rapid fire eighteen before holing out with Brentwood still forty runs short of Chelmsford total.

It was not to be Brentwood's afternoon but the boys should take heart from some excellent performances in the indoor league this season which should see Brentwood finish third behind Ilford and Chelmsford. The U11's have the nucleus of a strong side which bodes well with the start of Spring and the new outdoor season just around the corner.

Indoor League Summary

9th March 2009

Although loosing our last game to Chelmsford, who are at the top of the league, I would like to congratulate all the boys who played in the U11 indoor league. Brentwood ended up 3rd, with Ilford coming 2nd. Bearing in mind it was their 1st season at indoor cricket I think overall we had some excellent performances and I think they should congratulate themselves. Some very good learning curbs were taken into consideration over the past few months, and I think the boys have now set themselves up for the coming summer season outdoor. I am proud of them all and hope they enjoyed the winter season. Thank you to all the parents that helped me, especially David Berry and Kevin Brailey. We can now put our minds to the summer season and I am proud to be their Manager and look forward to their performances. We have a nucleous of a very strong team and once training starts can proceed and add to this squad.

Thanks again
Jan West, Manager
