Brentwood Colts U13s - 95-6
Brentwood won on fewer wickets lost
Report by Julie Welham
Brentwood won the toss and elected to bowl first on a cold cloudy morning in Leaden Roding. The opening bowlers did a fine job keeping the run rate down, and James Welham was very unlucky not to be awarded an LBW in the 1st over. Matt Thorpe-Apps proved difficult to play contributing to frustrating the opening batsmen. First change bowler Henry Nation took the important wicket quite quickly followed by James Bowler taking the other opener. This slowed the run rate down to ensure Brentwood had a manageable target to chase. More wickets followed as Ravi Rupal and Prem Pithia took charge of the wicket (including a theatrical catch by wicket keeper Ed Hornby) and later the Cloghams batsmen chose the wrong fielder to send the ball to for a single as Jack Farge scored a direct hit on the wicket resulting in a run-out of the remaining run-scoring batsman. Welham and Thorpe -Apps returned to ensure there were no last minute high scoring overs. Cloghams finished on 95 for 8 off their 20 overs.
Hornby and Thorpe-Apps opened up the batting in confident form but unfortunately a mix up at the wicket caused Thorpe-Apps to be the victim of an early run out. In stepped Rupal to steady the ship. Good defensive batting saw out the majority of the opening bowler's overs, but Rupal edged a short ball onto the stumps. Welham followed to the crease with the score on 14 for 2 off 8 overs leaving Brentwood needing 82 off of 12 overs - 7 an over. Welham and Hornby struck up what looked to be a strong developing partnership but Hornby was bowled during the 12th over with the score on 36. With Brentwood now needing 59 from 8 overs the signs didn't look promising. Bowler joined Welham at the crease and a good partnership was formed. Bowler was bowled in the 15th over and Pithia was left to try to win the game. Welham began to hit some fours to increase the run rate significantly with Pithia carrying out the task in hand with confidence. With 2 overs to go Brentwood needed 18 runs - a seemingly mammoth task. Welham scored 11 runs off the first 2 balls (with the aid of a no ball and a wide) and with 7 balls to go 4 runs were needed but Welham was then clean bowled. Nation was sent in to finish the job. It went to the wire as Brentwood were on 94, needing 2 to win off the last ball. Pithia was unable to connect with the ball but the keeper didn't take it cleanly enough to avoid the bye and Brentwood were level on runs.
As fewer wickets were lost Brentwood were awarded the match.

Brentwood Colts U13s - 131-6 (16 overs)
Hatfield Peverel Colts U13s - 37-8
Brentwood won by 94 runs
Report by Julie Welham
On a rainy morning, Hatfield Peverel won the toss and elected to field on the rain soaked wicket. The match had already been shortened to 16 overs to try to beat the weather. Ben Sach and Ryan Fletcher opened the batting in fine form batting confidently and setting a good run rate. During the third over the boundary was shortened to allow the covers to be replaced on the Matchplay wicket and protect it from the ever worsening elements but the batsmen were not put off.
Fletcher was first to fall on 16 to a catch by Freddy Clark, Peverel's captain, and James Welham came to the crease to ensure that the run rate was maintained (including a 6 off the now shortened boundary). Welham was given out LBW (bowled Sauchella) on 26 to be replaced by Ed Hornby. Sach fell to bowler Sauchella on 33 and then Hornby was caught behind by the Peverel Keeper. Bowler and Dawes were bowled taking Sauchella's haul to 3 and Howell taking the other. Peverel were beginning to make inroads and slow the run rate although the target was well over 100 by this point. Rupal and Farge held their nerve and saw out the overs. Brentwood finished on a very credible 131 given the horrible conditions and pitch.
Peverel (who have scored 160 in a previous round of the same competition) were not perturbed by the target but their confidence was short lived. Early wickets fell to Welham and Sach reducing Peverel to 9 for 5 - Sach taking a double wicket maiden and removing 3 of the top 4 batsman including Clark, who scored a century in a previous round and played some confident shots today but was out for 12. Bowler then began a great spell bowling 4 overs taking 2 wickets for just 4 runs. Thorpe-Apps kept the run rate down and took the wicket of H Clarke who showed great potential but was the victim of an outstanding catch by Welham. The last pair of bowlers Nation and Pithia bowled economically to seal the victory.
Overall a fantastic team performance by the Under 13s - strength in batting and bowling and tighter fielding this week all bode well for a fantastic season ahead.

Brentwood Colts U13s - 154-7
Buckhurst Hill Colts U13s - 58
Brentwood won by 96 runs
Report by Julie Welham
At last, a warm day for cricket and Brentwood won the toss and elected to bat. Matt Thorpe-Apps and Ryan Fletcher opened the batting with Thorpe-Apps thumping the first ball of the match off Elias for 4 setting the mood for the rest of the team to follow. Thorpe-Apps fell to a catch by Mitchell off Elias on 13 to be replaced by Ben Sach. Sach and Fletcher struck up a 40 partnership playing some varied and confident shots before Fletcher was caught Elias, bowled Matheran. James Welham took up the mantle with Sach and the run rate continued to remain at a good rate. Sach was the unfortunate victim of a divot in the ground catching his bat when grounding - but the divot was unfortunately outside of the crease – run out for 40. Matt Jordan joined Welham and played some fine shots before being caught off Nick. The last three Brentwood wickets fell quickly - Ravi Rupal, LBW and Sam Dawes and Welham run out in the late scrambling for runs - Welham on the last ball for 52. Brentwood finished on 154 for 7.
Welham and Sach opened the bowling and didn't allow the opening batsmen, George and Rishan to settle in for too long and they were both bowled by the end of their spell leaving Buckhurst Hill on 17 for 2. Fletcher and Thorpe-Apps took over the bowling and a fine spell by Fletcher saw him take a total of three wickets (all bowled) taking the score to 43 for 5. The speed of the bowling was keeping wicket keeper Jack Farge busy - and a good number of byes were saved. Welham returned and bowled out Alex, the last of the high order batsmen, leaving the match very much in Brentwood's favour. Nation got in on the act, bowling Mitchell before Welham took the remaining 3 wickets in the next over taking his haul to 5 wickets in 6 overs for 7 runs ending the home side's innings on 58.
Another fantastic team performance by the Under 13s - and the first time any of us have witnessed all 10 wickets being taken clean bowled. Once again there was strength in the batting and bowling and good tight fielding this week - well done to all of the team - a well deserved win!

Brentwood Colts U13s - 118-4 (20 overs)
South Woodham Colts U13s - 111-7 (20 overs)
Brentwood won by 7 runs
Report by Ian Dawes
Brentwood openers Ben Sach and Ryan Fletcher set off the Brentwood innings at a storming pace, putting on 53 runs for the 1st wicket in 9 overs despite some shaky running with some classy stroke play. Sach fell first for 28 with an unfortunate run out. Three more wickets then fell within the next 6 runs leaving Brentwood possibly turning a dream start into a disaster; with Woodham's Pitman doing the bulk of the damage with some good left arm over swing.
At 59-4 Matt Jordan and Jack Farge, were at the crease. Some power hitting, notably from Jordan and some good running from the pair saw Brentwood rebuild their innings, reaching 118-4 with Jordan and Farge remaining unbeaten on 38 and 15 respectively.
Colts U13s vs South Woodham
The South Woodham innings started with a slow build up with Brentwood Captain James Welham bowling successive maidens. Openers Baldock and Royce then set about getting up to the required run rate. They put on 45 for the 1st wkt and looked to be matching Brentwood but the balance swayed back to the home team when Baldock was run out on 36 going for an ambitious 2nd run. While Bunn and Ahmed continued at a good rate; good bowling and fielding kept Brentwood's noses in front. A direct hit run out from Sam Dawes and a timely second spell from Welham taking 2 wkts saw Brentwood to victory in this excellent game of cricket.

Under 13 Central Essex District Cup Final
Bentley Colts U13s - 92-9 (20 overs)
Brentwood Colts U13s - 93-3 (19.2 overs)
Brentwood won by 7 wickets
Report by Ian Dawes
BRENTWOOD VICTORIOUS IN THRILLING CEDB CUP
Fine weather, a large crowd, and the Brentwood ground in spectacular condition set the scene for this CEDB Cup final clash between local rivals Bentley and Brentwood.
Bentley, having gone unbeaten in the league this season, were firm favourites, and upon winning the toss they elected to bat on a good even batting surface.
Brentwood team captain Welham took the new ball and struck with the first ball; rattling the stumps with a swinging delivery. This brought Coleman to the crease to join Pagett - both dangerous batsmen. The pair set about repairing the early damage to good effect until Fletcher struck twice in successive overs to dismiss the pair; with the in-form Coleman caught behind by Hornby for 19.
Now on top, Brentwood worked through the batting order with Thorpe-Apps, Bowler and Sach taking wickets steadily. Hyams provided stiff opposition with aggressive running and shot making, spurring Bentley on to a total of 92.
Brentwood Colts U13s - Under 13 Central Essex District Cup Final winners
If Brentwood thought it was going to be easy, they would soon realise they were wrong.
A good opening partnership looked to be developing between Fletcher and Sach, despite accurate bowling from Jewers. Sach was given out caught behind and the momentum changed. Welham joined Fletcher but a superb spell from Courtnel (4 overs for 5 runs), supported by Pagett, saw Brentwood barely stutter along causing pressure which led to Fletcher being run out. Hornby added some vital runs but the pace hardly increased and he too fell, run out.
The pressure was really on now as Jordan joined the fray. Needing in excess of 7 an over from the last 8 overs, the pair started the fight back. Bentley had held back their main strike bowler, Coleman for the death but this also meant that the extra pace could be utilised by the batsmen. Welham, especially, enjoyed the ball coming on to the bat and hit several glorious shots. With a Brentwood victory still looking in doubt, he hit the 17th over for 15 runs. Bentley fought to the end but Jordan scored the winning run early in the last of the 20 overs. Excellent support for both sides was rewarded with a game befitting a final.
