CRICKET CLUB
Welcome to the new season!

Firstly, thank you for supporting the social events last year. We raised a lot of money, all of which goes towards repaying the loan for the purchase of the ground and it is no exaggeration to say that this is down to your attendance at, and support of, the events that we organise. This coming season needs to see the same kind of support if we are to reach our target of repaying the loan within three years.

The events that are organised for this year are pretty much the same as last year (if it ain't broke, don't fix it?!) although we hope to have a couple of additions as well.

School Disco - Saturday 8th May

Usual format, £5 per ticket, school uniform must be worn. As a compromise between the last two years there will be some form of quiz to encourage a bit of social drinking! DJ Shane makes his come-back!

Quiz Night - Friday 4th June

Again, same format as usual, £5 per team member, answer questions, win prizes, not tricky!

Race Night - Saturday 19th June

As last year, £10 per horse but under 16’s can also 'jockey' a horse for £2. Each race will be sponsored by a local company/establishment so the races will definitely be worth winning.

Summer Party - Saturday 24th July

DJ Shane returns for another slot! Tickets, once again, £5 for adults, £2 for under 16’s, or 'family' tickets available to colts and parents for £10. Weather permitting there will also be a barbecue throughout the evening.

Six-A-Side Tournament - Sunday 29th August

Entry will be £10 per person which will include the days cricket and tea and barbecue vouchers. Guest teams are welcome but please, let’s make sure Shenfield don't win it again this year!

Dinner & Dance - Saturday 11th September

"The Event in the Tent" - hopefully. As last year we cannot book the marquee until we know definite numbers so to begin with there will be limited places available and the event will be "The Ball in the Hall" (thanks JP!) until enough tickets have been sold to cover the cost of the marquee. So I urge you to get in quick. I will have tickets available all year so please ask as early as you like. The main difference this year will be that ALL tickets must be paid for before the night. Tickets will not be given without payment and entry will not be allowed on the night without a ticket. This is for two reasons. Firstly, there are still people who asked for tickets last year and then didn't turn up (you know who you are and you will be expected to pay anyway). And secondly, and just as importantly, this means that myself and Statto can actually enjoy the evening, rather than having to count money all night!

As for the extra events that we will be having, there will be a Gentleman’s Evening at some point, probably a Friday night, but I'll leave you to work out what that entails! Additionally we will be holding a Sports Memorabilia Auction Night where items such as signed cricket bats, signed footballs and rugby world cup memorabilia will be available. Both dates are to be confirmed but both should be very good nights, albeit in somewhat different ways, so look out for the posters in the bar and the changing rooms.

Thanks in anticipation of your support and have a good season.

Paul Webb.
