Cricket Lunches and Teas 2008
Dear Members,
A while ago I sent you the message below seeking volunteers to do the lunches and teas for the first six teams for the coming season. To date no single or group of people have signed up. I would like to give you some more information, which may help you decide.
The budget for the year is as follows. All teas are £45 per match and that is for 22 players. For the first team that also includes 2 umpires and two scorers. There are usually three home matches on a Saturday. All lunches are £65 per match and that is for nine first team matches only and the same number of people as for teas. Only the first team have lunch. Talking to the people that did it previously we are informed that it is possible to have a surplus, particularly on first team days. That surplus would be yours.
The Executive Committee have had to consider the possibility that we get no volunteers, whilst remaining optimistic. We would have to employ a caterer commercially to do the job and that would cost a lot more than the budget above. The Executive Committee estimates that we would have to increase match fees for each player in home matches only by up to £3 per match. To do this we would need to call a Special General Meeting. We do not wish to do this, but to avoid it we do need a volunteer or volunteers.
Original message follows:
For the 2008 Cricket season we are looking for someone, either an individual or group of people, to prepare and serve lunches and teas to the players and officials at the Essex League, League Cup and national Cup matches on a Saturday / Sunday during the season, end of April until early September.
- Lunches are served only at 1st XI League matches (9 scheduled) on Saturdays. A tea is also served at the same matches.
- All other league and cup matches for the 1st XI thru to the 6th XI teas only are served. Each team will have 9 scheduled home matches and three teams will be at home on any one Saturday.
- Sundays will only be for some League Cup, Evening Standard Cup, national Cup, depending on the progress of the team.
We are obliged, by the competitions to provide this facility.
The cost of this is borne by the club with an opportunity for the person organising and running the catering to make a small profit. We would certainly not expect to see anyone out of pocket.
If you are interested or know someone that may be please contact me, details below.
Best regards
