Shenfield won the toss and elected to bowl. Aaron West and Jack Turner opened the batting for Brentwood. With only 15 runs on the board Turner was trapped LBW by Turrell for 5. Ed Allen joined West and moved the score onto 58 before Louie Wright caught Allen off the bowling of Ollie King for 21.

Chris Stockwell joined West and whilst playing a supporting roll helped move the score onto 115 for 2. Unfortunately a mix up between both batsman lead to Stockwell sacrificing his wicket and was run out for 8. Matthew Lowman was next in and with West completing a textbook 100 (his first century for Brentwood Colts) decided to retire.

Gautam Datta added a further 2 runs before he was caught and bowled by Wright. With just a couple of balls left Joe Walland joined Lowman and the innings closed at 159 for 4 off 20 overs with Lowman not out 8 and Walland on 1. There were 14 extras.

Captain Chris Stockwell then brought on spinner Sam Rounce and in two electrifying overs had Ekers stumped for a brilliant 61. In his final ball of his first over he trapped Thake LBW for 1; and then with the first two balls of his second over had both Harry King and Moody caught by Allen for 11 and 0 respectively to complete his hat trick. U15's CEDCB Cup: Round 1 Match Report 2006

Venue: The Old County Ground
Date: Wednesday 31st May 2006

High Roding Colts U15's:
Brentwood U15's:
64 for 7 off 20 overs
68 for 7 off 17.5 overs

(Brentwood Colts U15's won by 3 wickets)

This game had been cancelled on numerous occasions because of bad weather so it was a relief to finally get the match underway.

High Roding won the toss and decided to bat. Moore and Burns opened their batting and against some fairly tight bowling from Jack Turner and Matthew Lowman were restrained from scoring many runs.

Once the opening bowlers had completed their spell Brentwood switched to a spin attack of Harri Jones and Sam Rounce. Both of these bowlers began to worry the batsman and it was not long before Jones bowled Burns for 20. Tyler then joined Moore but shortly after that was run out for 1.

The new batsman was Collins but after only scoring 3 runs he was bowled by Rounce and High Roding were in trouble. Thompson was next in for the away team.

Shortly after this Brentwood made another bowling switch bringing on young 12-year-old James Welham. With his first ball he had Thompson caught and bowled for 3 then with his second ball he had opener Moore caught by Joe Walland for 18. He was then extremely unlucky not to complete his hat trick as the new batsman spooned the ball in the air just to fall short of a fielder.

Brentwood under 15's Captain Chris Stockwell was the next bowler to get rewarded when wicket keeper Aaron West had Holdgate stumped for 1. The final ball of the innings saw Bush caught by Rounce off Welham for 2. Mondrel was the batsman left not out for 3 and High Roding were 64 for 7 off 20 overs including 13 extras.

Brentwood's task of getting 65 runs to win should have been fairly easy but when Ed Nation was bowled for 0 by Burns and Aaron West was caught by Moore off Holdgate for 11 the task became much harder.

Stockwell and Lowman tried to start the recovery and batting cautiously nicked a few singles until Burns bowled Stockwell for 1. New batsman Jack Turner made 6 before Mondrel caught him off the bowling of Tyler.

Then Harri Jones came to the crease and decided it was time to try and build a match winning partnership with Lowman; they both moved the score on very carefully until Lowman tried to hit a shot over the top of fielders but was caught by Wright bowled Tyler for 8.

Sam Rounce then made 3 before being caught by Burns bowled Speller and James Welham was out for 2 caught Thompson bowled Wright. Joe Early was next in and with Brentwood on 64 for 7 Jones hit the winning boundary to give the home side victory on 68 for 7 off 17.5 overs including 21 extras. Jones and Early were not out 16 and 0 respectively.

In terms of match achievements Brentwood's young cricketer James Welham bowled 2 overs 0 maidens took 3 wickets for 4 runs and changed the direction of the game in the latter stages of the High Roding innings. Harri Jones showed maturity whilst batting under difficult circumstances and steered the home side past the winning post to face Little Baddow in the next round.

U15's CEDCB League Cup Final Match Report 2006

Venue: Chelmer Park Ground
Date: Sunday 3rd September 2006

Chelmsford Colts U15's:
Brentwood Colts U15's:
99 for 10 wickets off 17.4 overs
98 for 10 off 20.0 overs

(Chelmsford Colts U15's won by 1 run)

Earlier in the day the Brentwood team had been presented with the CEDCB U15's Division 'A' League Championship and were now playing in the Cup Final to try and achieve a memorial Cup and League win double. Brentwood won the toss and decided to bowl.

Chelmsford openers Adil Dewan and Tom Halsey made a good start and had put 27 on the scoreboard before Dewan was caught and bowled spectacularly by Ed Allen for 17. New batsmen Dan Evans-Green joined Dewan but shortly after he was stumped by wicket keeper Aaron West bowled Matt Lowman for 0 and Chelmsford were 36 for 2. Stephen Drain and Dewan stabilised the innings for a short time but when the score was on 61 Drain was bowled by Chris Stockwell for 13 on his last ball of the over.

When Stockwell resumed bowling an over later he dispatched Anthony Holland LBW for 0 and completed his hat-trick by having Matt Mills stumped by West for 1. With only a further 3 runs scored Stockwell struck again getting opener Tom Halsey caught by Ross Phillips for 19. Chelmsford then moved on to 77 before Sam Rounce had Zain Panjwani caught by Ed Nation for 1. Two runs later a brilliant pick up by Rounce saw Lee Cranmer run out for 11 and shortly after Danish Dewan became Stockwell's 5th victim when Nation took his second catch of the match with the batsman out for 2.

With Chelmsford on 80 for 9 they needed a last wicket stand. Omar Raisat and Ijas Akhtar did just that pushing the score to 99 before Raisat was stumped by West bowled Turner for 12. Akhtar was the not out batsman on 2. Chelmsford had scored 99 for 10 off 17.4 overs, there were 21 extras.

Brentwood openers Aaron West and Ed Nation had only put on 17 when Nation was caught brilliantly by Panjwani for 2 bowled Akhtar. Shortly after this new batsman Ed Allen was caught by Cranmer bowled Holland for 2 followed by Jack Turner LBW bowled Holland for 0. Brentwood were now 24 for 3.

Matt Lowman joined West at the crease but with only a further six runs scored Lowman was bowled by Holland for 1. The next batsman in to join West was Chris Stockwell who had taken 5 wickets for 14 runs. Between them they pushed the score to 60 before West was run out for 33. Brentwood then sent in Ed Allen as a runner for Ross Phillips who was carrying an injury. Philips played a supporting role whilst Stockwell continued to play run scoring shots. The score had moved on to 94 before Phillips / Allen were deemed to be run out for 5. Jack Denman was then bowled by Evans-Green for 0 followed by Stockwell being run out for 34. Brentwood were now 96 for 8 and the pressure was telling.

Next to go was Sam Rounce bowled Evans-Green for 0.This left a nail biting finish, Brentwood needed 2 runs off the last ball to draw level with 99 runs, (this would have given them victory as they had lost one wicket less) or 3 runs off the final ball to claim out right victory.

Unfortunately for Brentwood Josh Brown was run out for 0 and the dream of the League and Cup double was over. The not out batsman was James Welham on 0. Brentwood's final score was 98 for 10 off 20 overs there were 21 extras.

Congratulations to Chelmsford on their win and to both teams for giving the many spectators at the Chelmsford Cricket Club a very exciting match to watch, which literally went down to the last ball.

In terms of match achievements 'Man of the Match' was Chris Stockwell (Brentwood) who bowled 4 overs, 1 maiden, 5 wickets for 14 runs and then went on to score 34 runs before being run out.

Other achievers were Anthony Holland (Chelmsford) who bowled 4 overs, 3 maidens, 3 wickets for 7 runs and Aaron West (Brentwood) who scored 33 runs.

Team: Aaron West; Ed Nation; Ed Allen; Jack Turner; Matt Lowman; Ross Phillips; Chris Stockwell; James Welham; Jack Denman; Josh Brown; Sam Rounce
